Penlights
Every light here has a 2–9 mm pupil gauge printed along one side and a 0–50 mm ruler on the other, so pupil size can be read against a reference instead of estimated.
Penlights for pupil checks and examination of the mouth and wounds. The models are 13.5 cm long, run on two AAA batteries and give a warm yellow LED light. Luxamed ships with batteries in the box and comes in seven colours; the single-colour models are sold without batteries.

What is the pupil gauge on a penlight used for?
To read pupil size against a printed reference instead of estimating it. That makes the measurement comparable between examiners and between examinations — which is the whole point when following a patient over time or documenting a difference between the right and left pupil.
Are batteries included?
It depends on the model. The Luxamed penlights ship with two AAA batteries in the box. The single-colour penlights take the same battery type but are sold without, so plan on adding two AAA cells if you choose those.
Why yellow light instead of white?
Yellow LED light is perceived as less dazzling when directed at an eye adapted to low light, which makes the examination more comfortable for the patient. For the light response itself either colour works — it is the contrast against ambient light that determines how clear the response is.
Can the penlight be wiped down between patients?
Yes. The housing tolerates wiping with alcohol or surface disinfectant in the same way as other pocket-carried instruments. Wipe the light when it has been in contact with skin or mucous membrane, and particularly before and after examining the mouth and throat.
