Powder sprinklers

A powder sprinkler is a self-contained, heat-activated unit for a small room or defined point hazard. It is ceiling-mounted and requires no pipework, electrical supply or external connection.

Choose a Presto powder sprinkler containing 6 or 12 kg of powder. The units activate at 68 °C and are intended for locations such as stores, refuse rooms, containers and defined industrial processes or machinery.

Automatic local protection with powder

The powder sprinkler consists of a steel container, pressure gauge and valve with a glass bulb. When the bulb reaches 68 °C, the valve opens and a deflector spreads the powder over the area below. Manufacturer information states that a ceiling bracket is included.

This is local point protection, not a piped sprinkler system for an entire building. Correct position, mounting height and coverage are critical. Presto specifies a position 1.5–3 metres above the hazard, installed above the object or area being protected.

6 kg or 12 kg powder sprinkler

The 6 kg model has a stated coverage of up to 9 m², while the 12 kg model covers up to 14 m². Both are pressurised with nitrogen to 15 bar, have a gauge and use ABC powder that operates from −30 to +60 °C according to Presto.

Selection must be based on the actual hazard area and the organisation's fire-safety design. Add portable fire extinguishers, visible fire signage and other fire safety equipment. Always follow the product data sheet and local installation and inspection requirements.

Vanliga frågor om powder sprinklers

What is a powder sprinkler?

It is a self-contained container of extinguishing powder installed above a limited hazard area. A heat-sensitive glass bulb opens the valve at the specified temperature and releases the powder. It requires no pipework or electrical power but does not automatically replace a designed sprinkler system for a building.

What area do the units cover?

Presto states up to 9 m² for the 6 kg model and up to 14 m² for the 12 kg model. Coverage depends on correct positioning and mounting height. Do not rely only on floor area; the hazard's shape, surroundings and the fire-safety design influence the appropriate solution.

Where can a powder sprinkler be used?

The manufacturer lists small spaces and point hazards, including stores for flammable equipment, refuse rooms, containers and certain industrial processes or machines. Install and inspect it according to the data sheet. If sizing or regulatory requirements are uncertain, ask a competent fire-safety specialist to assess the installation.
