Nitrile, powder-free and the right size

Nitrile instead of latex. Natural rubber latex can trigger allergy in both staff and patients, and that risk does not exist with nitrile. Nitrile also withstands alcohol and other disinfectants better than latex, which matters over a working day with frequent hand disinfection.

Powder-free throughout. Powder was once used to make gloves easier to put on, but it binds proteins and disperses into the air. Every glove in this range is powder-free.

Size determines grip. A glove that is too large folds at the fingertips and makes it hard to feel; one that is too small tires the hand and risks tearing. If you are buying for a workplace, it is worth stocking all three sizes.

Two pack sizes with different purposes

The box of 100 belongs in the clinic, the store room and at the examination couch. The 2-pack is intended for the medical bag, the first aid kit or the vehicle, where space is limited and gloves need to be at hand without carrying a whole box.

SHIELDskin is thicker and intended for tasks where the glove is subjected to more strain than during routine examination.

Why nitrile instead of latex?

Natural rubber latex can trigger allergic reactions in both clinical staff and patients, and anyone who has become sensitised reacts even to small amounts. Nitrile contains no natural rubber protein and carries no such risk. Nitrile also withstands alcohol and disinfectants better, which matters with frequent hand disinfection.

What does powder-free mean?

Glove powder was used to make gloves easier to put on and take off. The powder binds proteins and dust, disperses into the air when the glove is removed and can end up in wounds and on instruments. The entire range here is powder-free.

Which size should I order for a workplace?

Medium is the most common size, but hand size varies too much between individuals for a single size to work across a workplace. Stock S, M and L and let staff choose — a glove in the wrong size compromises both dexterity and durability.
