Smoke alarms

A smoke alarm should detect smoke early and be audible where people sleep. The range includes Nordic 10 Stand Alone with a sealed lithium battery and a separate magnetic mounting plate.

Nordic 10 Stand Alone is an optical smoke alarm for homes and holiday accommodation. The range also includes a self-adhesive magnetic mounting plate that makes it easier to remove a compatible alarm for testing and inspection.

Smoke alarm with a sealed battery

Nordic 10 Stand Alone uses a sealed 3 V lithium battery with an estimated life of up to ten years. Manufacturer data specifies a test button, a pause of approximately nine minutes and a sound level of at least 85 dB at three metres. Replace the complete alarm when the sealed battery is depleted.

Install the alarm on the ceiling in accordance with its instructions. Swedish civil-protection guidance recommends an alarm on every storey and in or near rooms in which people sleep. Test it with the test button once a month and after a long absence.

Magnetic installation without drilling

The mounting plate uses self-adhesive surfaces and holds the alarm magnetically. This can simplify installation and regular testing, but the surface and the rear of the alarm must be suitable for the mount. Check adhesion regularly and always use a mounting method approved by the alarm manufacturer.

Vanliga frågor om smoke alarms

How often should a smoke alarm be tested?

Use the test button once a month and after a long absence. The test checks the battery and sounder but does not replace cleaning or replacement at the interval in the instructions. If the alarm reports a low battery, follow the model's guidance for battery or complete-unit replacement.

Where should a smoke alarm be installed?

It is normally installed on the ceiling in accordance with the manufacturer's distance and positioning instructions. Have at least one on every storey and position alarms so that they can be heard in bedrooms behind closed doors. Avoid steam, dirt and draughts where the instructions warn that these could cause false alarms.

Does the magnetic plate fit every smoke alarm?

No. Compatibility depends on the alarm's shape, weight and rear surface, as well as the ceiling material. Follow both sets of mounting instructions. Do not use a self-adhesive mount on a surface where the adhesive cannot make full contact or may come loose.
