Laerdal

Laerdal makes both the training manikins used in almost all Swedish CPR training and the clinical equipment that sits in the emergency bag.

Laerdal Medical in Stavanger is the company behind Resusci Anne, Little Anne and Mini Anne — and the same catalogue holds pocket masks, bag valve masks, cervical collars, spine boards and suction units. We stock the manikins with their wear parts as well as the clinical equipment for airway, breathing and immobilisation.

The training manikins

  • Resusci Anne QCPR — the manikin for professional training, as a torso or full body and with a case. The airway head (AW) version also handles intubation and laryngeal masks, which makes it dual-purpose kit for CPR and airway training.
  • Little Anne and Little Anne Gen2 — the workhorse of the classroom. Stackable, quick to prepare and available as a six-pack for the whole group. The QCPR version measures the compressions.
  • Little Junior, Little Baby QCPR and Baby Anne — child and infant manikins, singly or in four-packs.
  • Mini Anne, Mini Anne Plus and Mini Baby — inflatable manikins for large groups, where every participant has a manikin of their own throughout the session.
  • Choking Charlie — training on airway obstruction with the Heimlich manoeuvre.

QCPR — what the measurement actually gives you

The QCPR manikins record compression depth, rate, how well the chest is allowed to recoil between compressions and the volume of the rescue breaths. The measured values go to Laerdal's app or to a SimPad Plus SkillReporter, which gathers several participants in the same session. The point is not the technology but that assessment stops being the instructor's estimate: the participant sees their own curve while they practise.

What QCPR means in practice is described in our guide to CPR feedback.

Airway, breathing and emergency care

Laerdal's pocket mask is the mask found in most Swedish first aid bags — with a one-way valve, in a hard case or a soft pouch, and with an oxygen inlet for those who have oxygen to hand. Alongside it we stock the single-use bag valve mask The BAG II in adult and child sizes, silicone masks, face shields and keyring shields.

For prehospital care there is the cervical collar Stifneck Select, the spine board BaXstrap with spider straps, Compact Suction Unit in 300 ml and 800 ml, and the Thomas Tube Holder for tube fixation.

Wear parts and spare parts

The manikins' disposable airways are threaded through the manikin and changed for each participant — they come in packs of 24 and 96. Beyond those we stock lungs, faces, jaws, face connectors and upgrade kits, as well as filters for the pocket mask. A manikin rarely needs replacing; it is the consumables that run out.

Vanliga frågor om laerdal

What is the difference between Little Anne and Resusci Anne?

Little Anne is a torso built for volume: light, stackable and quick to set up for a group. Resusci Anne is the larger professional manikin, available as a full body and can be had with an airway head for intubation and laryngeal masks. If you only need to train compressions and rescue breaths, Little Anne is enough.

What is the difference between Mini Anne and Mini Anne Plus?

Both are inflatable manikins for large groups. Mini Anne Plus is the more durable version, intended to be used over and over again with replaceable lungs, while Mini Anne is the simpler manikin that is often handed out to the participants. Lungs are available for both in multipacks.

Do we need an app to use the QCPR manikins?

No, the manikin works without one. The app or a SimPad is only needed to read off the measured values. Many instructors use the manikin without a connection during the warm-up and only connect the measurement when the participants are to be assessed.

Which spare parts should we keep in stock?

The disposable airways, since they are changed for each participant and are therefore consumed in step with the number of course participants. Beyond those, lungs and faces are the parts that wear out. Base the consumption on the number of participants per term, not on the number of manikins — that is where the stock runs out in the middle of a session.
