Why a permanent marker belongs in the bag

In healthcare and emergency response, things have to be labelled on surfaces an ordinary pen will not mark: a plastic pack, a syringe, a strip of tape on a dressing, a bag in the fridge. The Sharpie Fine Marker writes on plastic, glass and metal and tolerates a surface that is cool or slightly damp.

Its best use is labelling that someone else will read later — what, when and by whom. A time written on a strip of tape beside a dressing, or contents and date on a drawn-up syringe, tells the next person something that would otherwise be lost.

Never write directly on skin with a marker intended for materials. Use a pen made for skin marking where that is needed.

Three colours

Colours make it possible to separate different labels without writing more: one colour for time, another for contents, a third for deviations. Which system is used is decided by local routine.

Vanliga frågor om sharpie

Does the marker write on plastic and glass?

Yes. The Sharpie Fine Marker is a permanent marker made for surfaces where water-based ink will not adhere, such as plastic, glass and metal. That is why it is used to label packaging, syringes and equipment rather than paper.

Can I write on skin with it?

No. Use a pen intended for skin marking when something is to be written on a patient. Markers made for materials are not intended for skin contact, and the ink is difficult to remove. The Sharpie Fine Marker belongs on packaging, tape and equipment.

Why three colours?

Colours make it possible to separate different kinds of labelling on the same surface without writing longer text — for example one colour for the time and another for contents. Which system applies is decided by local routine, not by the pen.
