Universal trainer or the same model as your own?

Two routes, and the choice depends on what the training is meant to achieve:

  • Universal AED trainer — plays several scenarios and suits any CPR training regardless of which unit the trainees later encounter. Prestan's trainers are bilingual with Swedish and English voice prompts and have adult and paediatric modes. The right choice for instructors teaching mixed groups.
  • Model-specific trainer — the same casing, buttons and voice as your live unit. The right choice when training staff at a workplace with one particular model in the wall cabinet, because recognition is the whole point.

Training internally on your own equipment, the second option is almost always right. Running a training business, you need the first.

Training pads are consumables

Training pads lose their adhesion after repeated use and need regular replacement — they are the part of the training kit that actually runs out. We stock both universal and model-specific pads, including paediatric variants.

The pads also tie in with the manikin in some setups: Prestan's trainers have automatic pad detection on Prestan manikins, letting the exercise register placement. With manikins from another make the trainer still works, just without that link.

Never mix the trainer up with the live unit

An AED trainer delivers no current and must never end up in the emergency cabinet. Label them clearly, store them separately from live equipment, and check at every training session that the right unit has been brought out. Trainers are deliberately similar to their live counterparts — that is why they work as teaching tools, and why the mix-up is possible.

Vanliga frågor om aed trainers

What is the difference between an AED trainer and a real defibrillator?

An AED trainer delivers no current. It has the same casing, buttons and voice prompts as the live unit but analyses no heart rhythm and cannot defibrillate. That lets trainees practise the whole sequence — retrieve it, place the pads, follow the voice — without any risk.

Should we buy a universal trainer or the same model as our defibrillator?

If you train your own staff on one particular unit, a model-specific trainer is almost always right, because recognition is the point. If you train mixed groups who will meet different makes, a universal trainer with several scenarios is better. Prestan's universal trainers are bilingual with adult and paediatric modes.

How often do training pads need replacing?

They are consumables and lose adhesion after repeated use. How quickly depends entirely on how many trainees pass through them. Plan to keep a stock at hand rather than ordering on demand — a session with pads that will not stick is hard to run.

Can an AED trainer be stored with the live defibrillator?

No. The trainer is deliberately similar to the live unit, which is precisely why a mix-up can happen. Label the training equipment clearly and store it away from the emergency cabinet, so nobody grabs a trainer during a real cardiac arrest.
