Vanliga frågor om surgical forceps
How do you remove a tick the right way?
Grip the tick as close to the skin as possible, preferably around the mouthparts rather than the body, and pull straight out with a steady pull. Do not squeeze the body and do not apply grease, alcohol or heat first — that increases the risk of the tick emptying its gut contents into the wound. Wash the skin afterwards.
Does it matter if part of it stays in the skin?
Rarely. Remaining mouthparts transmit no infection and are usually pushed out on their own, much like a splinter. If they come away easily with pointed tweezers you can remove them, otherwise leave them. Seek care if you get a spreading ring-shaped rash, fever or migrating aches.
Which tweezers belong in a first aid kit?
Pointed splinter tweezers and a tick remover cover most of what happens at a workplace or out in the woods. Surgical forceps with teeth belong in the practice, not in the bag. Choose stainless steel — plastic tweezers lose their grip exactly when it matters most.
