Fire safety equipment for the actual risk

Effective fire safety starts with early detection. Our smoke alarm range includes the Nordic 10 Stand Alone and a separate magnetic mounting plate. For first response to a small fire, compare fire extinguishers using powder, foam, carbon dioxide, water mist and specialist agents for cooking-oil and lithium-ion battery fires.

Fire blankets complement an extinguisher and are available in 120 × 120, 120 × 180 and 150 × 180 cm. For defined point hazards, powder sprinklers are ceiling-mounted units triggered by heat above the object or area being protected.

Match the extinguisher to the fire class and location

The fire rating identifies the type of fire for which an extinguisher is intended: A for solid fibrous material, B for flammable liquids, C for gas and F for cooking oils and fats. Swedish civil-protection guidance normally recommends a powder extinguisher of at least 6 kg for a home, together with smoke alarms and a fire blanket.

Organisations need to assess the actual hazard. Carbon-dioxide extinguishers are used where residue could damage sensitive equipment. Wet-chemical extinguishers address cooking fats, while a lithium extinguisher is designed for equipment containing lithium-ion batteries. Always check the individual product rating and operating instructions.

Positioning, protection and clear identification

Equipment must remain visible and easy to reach. Extinguisher cabinets protect units from dirt, weather and wear in exposed settings. Fire signs identify extinguishers and fire-hose stations and can be supplemented with signs for agent type or direction.

Test smoke alarms regularly and follow their instructions for batteries and service life. Keep extinguishers undamaged, accessible and within the organisation's inspection routine. In a fire, prioritise safe evacuation, call the emergency services and only attempt to extinguish the fire if this can be done without putting anyone at risk.

Review the fire-safety setup whenever premises, processes or storage arrangements change. A new hazard may require a different extinguisher, additional signs or more units. Record equipment locations and inspections, and include alarm raising, evacuation and safe equipment use when staff are introduced to the workplace.

Vanliga frågor om fire safety

What fire safety equipment should a home have?

Swedish civil-protection guidance recommends smoke alarms, a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket. A powder extinguisher of at least 6 kg is a common first choice because it covers several ordinary fire types. Keep the equipment accessible and make sure everyone in the household knows where it is stored.

Which fire extinguisher should I choose?

Start with what can burn. Powder covers many common hazards, carbon dioxide leaves no extinguishing-agent residue, wet-chemical models address cooking fats, and lithium models are designed for equipment containing lithium-ion batteries. Read the fire rating and stated application; a specialist workplace may need a different solution from a home.

Does a fire blanket replace an extinguisher?

No. A fire blanket is primarily a complement for a small fire that can be fully covered, such as a pan fire or burning clothing. It must be accessible without passing the fire. Homes are normally advised to have both a blanket and an extinguisher, as well as working smoke alarms.

How often should a smoke alarm be tested?

Test the alarm with its test button once a month and after a long absence. Follow the model's instructions for low-battery warnings, cleaning and replacement. If the battery is permanently built in, replace the complete alarm when the battery is depleted or the stated service life has been reached.
